Last night I just placed the order for my new camera.
After much back and forth between the Nikon D800 and D800e I have finally decided to go for the D800e which does not have the anti alias filter.
Q. Why the D800e vs the D800?
I read a lot of different articles on both cameras.
I checked out as many 100% crop images shot with each camera as I could find and I came to the conclusion that the difference in sharpness was definitely noticeable. I’m always thinking about image quality when I’m shooting and post processing my images, so for me it makes sense to start with the highest quality image I can capture.
Q. What about the moire issues?
From everything I read, this seems to be more of a theoretical issue than a practical one that you run into regularly. I read plenty of articles about the reality of moire patterns and the general consensus was along the lines of “I’ve been shooting with a Leica for years and I have only ever had one or two images that showed the slightest signs of moire”.
So anyway… decision made.
I’ll hopefully get the camera at the end of April, lets hope my old D700 holds out until then…. I think it is on its last legs.
